JCI Manileña Takes Part in the National Training Month

February is the National Training Month for JCI Philippines. On this month, local organizations (LOs) have conducted multiple trainings/seminars on both JCI and non-JCI/special courses.

Community trainings are also a part of this month-long celebration.

Load Up! Seminar Series on JCI Impact, JCI Achieve and Maximizing Social Media on JCI Projects

JCI Manileña and JCI Makati have partnered to conduct a seminar series entitled, “LOAD UP!” As implied by its title, the attendees of this series of trainings would really get loaded with learning about the inclusive topics – JCI Impact, JCI Achieve, and Maximizing Social Media on JCI Projects. The event happened last February 28, 2015 at Sulok Function Room, Tiendesitas, Pasig City. 2014 JCI Manila EVP Lloyd T. Chao imparted his expertise in talking about JCI Impact. While JCI Makati 2015 Pres. Aries B. Balanay discussed and shared his knowledge on JCI Achieve. Last but not the least, JCI Makati 2015 VP Ernest T. Hernandez gave understanding to the attendees on how to maximize mass media in promoting JCI Projects. The multiple speakers brought cooperative discussion and opportunities to share perspectives and issues related to the theme.

Besides JCI Manileña and JCI Makati, other chapters that attended the training were JCI Manila, JCI Makati Princess Urduja and JCI Pateros Balut. These JCI Members have been equipped with the proper knowledge and understanding on how projects should be developed and implemented, and how the available media can be used to gain more support for the LO’s initiatives. This seminar series also served as a venue to meet other Jaycees who were as eager to learn, and further developed camaraderie among the attendees. It offered chances to discuss issues related to the subject matter, share experiences and exchange perspectives.

Let’s Play Ball!—A Basketball and Volleyball Clinic for the Happyland Kids

In lieu of the National Training Month (February), JCI Manileña has organized a community training through a basketball and volleyball clinic for the kids of Happyland in Tondo, Manila. Let’s Play Ball is based on last year’s JCI Manileña project in Happyland, in which 16 children were trained and taught the fundamentals of basketball. This year, JCI Manileña made the girls more involved by including a volleyball clinic as well.

Summer is fast approaching and this is the best time to hold sports clinics. This is also the time when children ages 8-15 years old are excited how they can spend their summer vacation. With this program, JCI Manileña aims to create awareness for children that having a sport means having a good physical exercise for mind, body and spirit. Furthermore, team sports are good for learning teamwork, accountability, dedication, and leadership, among many other traits. Putting it all together by playing a sport is a winning combination.

For this first session, JCI Manileña gathered 104 children aged 8-15 years old to try out for volleyball and basketball. From this, there were 20 kids chosen as trainees for the basketball and 21 for the volleyball. These children will be trained by collegiate, amateur and professional athletes who will then try out for bigger leagues such as the Alaska’s Junior NBA and WNBA Metro Manila.
