Oplan Bayanihan: Tondo Fire

On March 2 and 3, two consecutive incidents of fire in different portions of Parola in Tondo, Manila left thousands of families homeless. In response, JCI Manileña has activated “Oplan Bayanihan”, its local relief operations in line with the JCI Philippines’ Oplan Kaagapay relief program.

Through the help of several sponsors – Moony-San Corp., Ms. Manila Organization, and the City Government of Manila – and the donations from JCI members and non-JCI friends and families, JCI Manileña was able to distribute relief packs to more than 200 families in Brgy. 20, Zone 2. The project distribution of relief goods was assisted by Brgy. Chairman Bong Parce, some barangay officers, and volunteers from Happyland.

Before the goods were distributed, JCI Manileña 2015 Secretary Royce Salen gave a few words to explain the purpose of the organization and to uplift the spirits of the fire victims. Furthermore, JCI Manileña member and reigning Ms. Manila 2014 2nd Runner-up Angelia Ong delivered her words of inspiration for the fire victims, who were also her constituents in the city she represents.

JCI Manileña has once again, proven that the spirit of “Bayanihan” among Filipinos will always be alive.
